One piece of advice (about college, Berkeley, PASS, life
in general): If you want something, go for it because
you don’t want to regret it later on. Take advantage of
every opportunity because there are so many opportunities at Berkeley.
Take advantage of your resources because there’s so much!
Don’t keep telling yourself that you have a lot of time
because before you know it you’ll be done!
PASS
Tell us about your position & why it’s important:
My position is Executive Director. My primary duties as Executive
Director is to provide support for the rest of staff and to be
a liaison to the bridges community and the staff / faculty at
Berkeley. It is important because with all the programs that we
do we have to continue to be updated with upcoming issues and
to make sure we are visible and communicative to the outside community.
Also, I help in making sure staff is informed with each other’s
programs.
What are some of your goals for this year?:
Some of my goals:
- are to provide transparency to the community,
- Improve community relations with the following: Berkeley Pilipino
organizations, bridges, other RRCs, Berkeley staff and faculty,
and any relevant outside organizations. This includes utilizing
them as resources, collaborations in events, and consistent communication.
- Strengthen retention programs especially through consistency
and visibility in retention programs.
- Be a support system to staff members.
First exposure to PASS: Senior Weekend! (Spring
2004)
Why & how did you decide to get involved?:
I got involved as an intern because I felt very welcomed to the
PASS space and I completely fell in love with their work for the
community. I have never been a part of a Pilipino organization
before and I wanted to see what it was like.
Why is PASS’ work important?: PASS’
work is important because everyone deserves the right to receive
higher education and shouldn’t be limited because of the
lack of resources they have. Higher education should always be
an option and everyone should feel like they can achieve that
goal. Social circumstances should never be the reason why someone
can’t go for their goals. We are a resource to everyone
and I hope that everyone takes advantage of it.
Where do you see PASS in 10 years?: I would hope
that there wouldn’t be such a need for an organization like
PASS in terms of recruitment because our community would be applying
and getting accepted to their dream schools. I would also hope
that we have a strong alumni base and that we are continuously
connected to our community in and out of Berkeley.
Anything else we should know?: I love eating
out! So if anyone has a good place to eat let me know! It’s
my last year at Berkeley so I’m down for having an awesome
year!
Shout-outs: to all my friends in and out of
Berkeley: THANK YOU for all the love and support. You all have
truly made these past three years memorable and life changing.
Thank you for all the laughs, hugs, smiles, listening, and basically
all the good times. Much love!
